Prime Capital starts fundraising for a Credit Opportunities Fund

06/07/2015

Prime Capital launches today the fundraising for a Credit Opportunities Fund, which will be a portfolio of Credit Opportunity Managers. Since establishment of the company in 2006, Prime Capital has invested in multiple Credit Opportunity Funds on behalf of individual institutional clients. “Our Investment Team, which has been working together for more than 10 years, has received several awards for its manager selection expertise. We are now making this expertise available to professional investors through the launch of a Credit Opportunities Fund”, says Dr. Werner Goricki, CIO and Vorstand of Prime Capital AG.

Credit Opportunity Managers take advantage of attractive investment opportunities at any stage of a capital market cycle, including the current challenging market environment. “Credit Opportunity Managers capitalise on economically distressed situations in particular industries and companies. This explains why Credit Opportunity Managers find lucrative investment opportunities regardless of the general market conditions, in contrast to Private Equity Managers”, says Andreas Kalusche, Managing Director Client Solutions. Managers also take advantage of the difficult regulatory environment for banks and the associated need for further balance sheet reductions.

Credit Opportunity Managers invest in complex situations affecting specific industries and companies as well as in turnarounds and can take an active role in the restructuring of such companies. They have a broad investment mandate and the flexibility to invest along the entire capital structure with a focus on credit instruments. The acquired positions may be individual investments or entire portfolio transfers; in addition, investments may be executed in single structured credit transactions. An investment will only be executed under the premise that it can be purchased at a high discount.

The Credit Opportunities Fund is contemplated to be a closed-ended Luxembourg special fund (SICAV-SIF) in the legal form of a limited partnership (SCS) administered by Prime AIFM GmbH, a German Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) which is licensed by the German regulator BaFin. The Credit Opportunities Fund will be diversified across regions, sectors and types of securities as well as strategies and will invest in a combination of five industry leading Credit Opportunity Managers. The current investment strategy is focused on European and North American opportunities. The fund manager (AIFM) anticipates an IRR of 12.5 – 15% net of costs and expects that the invested capital will be paid back to investors within 3 to 5 years. First close is scheduled for the second quarter of 2016.
