UN SDGs

July 19, 2021

Prime Capital aspires to be part of building a better, more equal and sustainable future for our stakeholders by contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through our own actions and investment management portfolio.

About the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are part of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 adopted by all member states in 2015. The 17 goals at the heart of the Agenda provide an integrated roadmap to end poverty, promote better health and education, create sustainable economic growth and combat climate change by 2030.

Private capital plays an important role in operating alongside public funds to achieve the SDGs. The UN Secretary General reports a funding gap of US$2.5 trillion per year and highlights the UN’s critical role in supporting and accelerating the mobilization of private finance in the Strategy for Financing the 2030 Agenda.

As an asset manager for institutional investors, such as insurance companies and pension funds, Prime Capital aspires to be part of building a better, more equal and sustainable future for our stakeholders by contributing to the SDGs through our own actions and investment management.

Own Actions

The nature of our business is to preserve and to increase our clients’ wealth. Many of our clients are insurance companies and pension funds. While increasing their invested assets and returns, we simultaneously take care of their underlying interests – securing the man-aged pensions and sums insured.

In our view, health and happiness are one of the most important drivers for a stable and efficient workforce. We grant our employees various additional benefits like flexible working hours, access to fitness programs and other health benefits as their work-life-balance and well-being is essential for a stable and healthy organization.

We support the professional development of our employees. We encourage them to participate in internal as well as external trainings and seminars on an ongoing basis. We value the contribution and new perspectives that young people bring to the company. We offer a variety of internships, working student opportunities and an apprenticeship program to become an office administrator. We support education initiatives and local entrepreneurs for communities surrounding our renewable energy project sites.

Investment Management

We have been developing electricity production from renewable energy sources since 2012. Our infrastructure division has invested in over 30 deals in onshore wind, solar and hydro power totalling almost 2GW of clean energy installed and significantly contributing to shifting the European energy mix towards renewable sources.

By developing infrastructure projects we create fair and safe employment opportunities in sustainable industires in both the construction and operation phases. In our infrastructure equity investments, we work with reputable sub-contractors and put high emphasis on environmental and health and safety conditions on our work sites.

We provide equity and debt financing to infrastructure projects in developed and emerging markets. Our recent transactions are focused on new energy, efficiency, new technology and social projects guided by a responsible investment policy to ensure sustainable returns for our clients and strategies.

Actions towards mitigating climate change and reaching the goals of the Paris Agreement are important in our investment activities. We consider energy efficiency when investing and contribute to decarbonizing industries through offering renewable energy sources with low levelized cost of energy.
